Raising Money with AIDS Walks There are a lot of ways that you can show support when it comes to the AIDS and HIV epidemic.  Some people like to donate money to the cause.  This money gets used in all sorts of ways.  It can go toward research that may eventually lead to a cure for the illness.  It can also be used to pay for medical supplies for people who have the virus.  This isn't the only way that you can show your support, though.  If you have a bit of time, you should consider attending an AIDS walk.  AIDS walks are great because they often raise a lot of money.  Essentially, they are a get together in an outdoor environment for anyone who feels strong like about the AIDS epidemic.  As you may have read from AIDS statistics, more than thirty three million people in the world are infected with this terrible and fatal virus.  Since this is so many people, there is a never ending need for money and help from those who are willing to give it.  This is why AIDS and HIV walks are so important. Generally, you would need to sign up in order to participate in the walk.  You then get sponsored by companies and individuals.  They pay you to walk during the AIDS walks.  This means that you essentially raise money based on the distance that you walk.  Not only is this a good way of earning money for the cause, but it is also a good way to get the word out as well.  When there is an AIDS walk in town, it makes the news and everyone hears about it.  there are banners and information booths at the actual walk site so that anyone who comes to watch can learn more about HIV and AIDS.  These information booths can get the word out the epidemic and can teach people about it with the use of AIDS statistics.  AIDS walks aren't the only way to raise money for the cause.  Some people just donate some money, without going to the event.  This money is used in many different and helpful ways.  For example, many parts of the world do not have ready access to condoms – a type of birth control that does a good job at preventing the contraction of AIDS and HIV.  The money you donate can help buy more of these and give them to those that need them. The money you raise also helps when it comes to medications.  There are plenty of areas in the world, especially in Africa, that do not have proper medical care.  Gone unchecked, the HIV virus can ravage these areas.  With the money that you raise from AIDS walks or other means can go toward providing people in those areas with medications and similar treatments. Finally, money raised can also help educate people in third world countries.  Often, these areas have a high population of people with AIDS because they never learned how to prevent it.  By going in and teaching them about how it is contracted and prevented, there will be a lot less people getting sick. As you can see, raising money is very important when it comes to helping people who have AIDS, and preventing people who don't have it from getting it in the first place.  This money can be raised in several ways, although AIDS walks are one of the best.  Not only do they raise a lot of money, but they bring the local community closer together.  If you are interested in doing this, most large towns all over the United States hold AIDS walks that you can attend.
